Toledo police say man hurt during high-speed chase

Toledo police are investigating a Saturday-morning crash that appeared to be caused by one vehicle chasing another.

Police said officers noticed two cars speeding east along Bancroft Street at Monroe Street shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday.

Officers said it appeared a white Chevy Impala was chasing a red Ford Fusion.

When the cars reached the intersection at Cherry Street, where Bancroft Road takes a slight left turn, both vehicles were traveling too fast to navigate the turn and both went off the road, officers said.

The Fusion then struck a parked car and hit a building, police said. The Impala struck three utility poles before coming to a stop, police said.

The driver of the Fusion, Shawntray Pratt, 32, of Toledo, was injured and taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where a hospital spokesman said he was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.

Several occupants of the Impala fled the scene, police said.
